For a species that calls itself intelligent…
Have we really learned very much?
We have incredible technology.
More information at our fingertips than any generation before us.
We can communicate with someone on the other side of the world in seconds.
And yet…
Look at the world we’ve created.
Every hour, we’re bombarded with stories of death, fear, conflict, anger, and division.
We feed our minds negativity day after day…
And then wonder why so many people feel anxious, overwhelmed, and disconnected.
We’ve become so busy chasing more…
That we’ve forgotten how to simply be.
We can even lose our patience because someone slows us down on the road for God forbid three or four seconds.
When did we become so disconnected from ourselves?
And then we look at the people leading our countries and ask:
“How did we get here?”
But perhaps we need to ask ourselves a harder question.
Who put them there?
We did.
We voted.
We chose.
And have we become so fearful that we’re afraid to let our voices be heard?
Afraid to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
Afraid to stand up for what we believe is right.
Perhaps the world is, at least in part, a reflection of what we have accepted.
So maybe it’s not simply about changing them.
Maybe it’s about changing us.
And perhaps our ancestors understood something we’ve forgotten.
Across our landscapes are reminders of people who lived much closer to nature.
Ancient stone circles.
Standing stones.
Sacred wells.
Fairy forts.
They watched the skies.
They followed the seasons.
They listened to the land.
Perhaps by reconnecting with nature…
They were also reconnecting with themselves.
Yet here we are, thousands of years later, surrounded by more information than humanity has ever had…
And still struggling to understand what truly makes us well.
We’ve become incredibly clever…
But have we become wiser?
Perhaps we’ve spent so long looking for answers outside ourselves…
That we’ve forgotten where to look within.
Look at nature.
Really look.
The trees aren’t trying to be something they’re not.
The seasons don’t fight one another.
The river doesn’t worry about whether it’s moving quickly enough.
Nature simply is.
And perhaps that’s one of the lessons we’ve forgotten.
We are not separate from nature.
We are nature.
Maybe some of the answers we’re searching for aren’t somewhere ahead of us.
Maybe they’re waiting in the silence of the woods…
In the sound of running water…
In the changing seasons…
And perhaps in the wisdom of those who came before us.
But there is something else we’ve forgotten.
We were born kind.
Before the fear.
Before the comparison.
Before the bitterness.
Before the world told us who we were supposed to be.
We were born wanting to connect.
So perhaps it’s time to take back our power.
Not through anger.
Not through hatred.
Not by blaming somebody else.
But through the choices we make every single day.
One kind word.
One helping hand.
One smile.
One act of compassion.
Because what we feed grows.
If we keep feeding fear, anger and division…
What kind of world are we creating?
But if we start feeding kindness…
What might grow then?
Maybe the change we’ve been waiting for doesn’t begin with governments.
Maybe it doesn’t begin with somebody else.
Maybe it begins with us.
Perhaps it’s time to tell the positive stories too.
The stories of people helping strangers.
People caring for animals.
People choosing love when hatred would be easier.
Because kindness doesn’t make headlines often enough.
But perhaps it should.
Perhaps we don’t need to become something we’re not.
Perhaps we simply need to remember who we were…
Before we forgot.
To reconnect with ourselves.
To reconnect with nature.
To reconnect with one another.
Because perhaps the greatest thing our ancestors left us wasn’t what they built.
It was what they knew.
And perhaps…
It’s time we remembered.
We were all born with a light.
Maybe it’s time to let it shine.
