I’m not going to sit here and wait for life to happen.

That thought was sparked by an image from the movie Up – a house being lifted into the sky by hundreds of balloons. It’s such a simple moment, but it says everything. The house doesn’t wait. It rises.

And it made me think about how easy it is for us to do the opposite.

We fall into the habit of waiting. Waiting for the perfect moment, waiting until we feel ready, waiting until everything finally comes together. But the question is – what are we actually waiting for?

Are we waiting to become perfect? Or is that just a story we tell ourselves to avoid starting?

The truth is, perfection isn’t a requirement to begin. More often than not, it’s the very thing that keeps us stuck. Meanwhile, the adventure we’re searching for is already there, right in front of us, waiting. Not for a better version of us – just for us to take the first step.

I’ve always believed in starting with what you have. Not what you wish you had or what you think you need – just what you have right now. Alongside that comes a simple mindset: I will learn, I will grow, and I will upskill along the way.

That approach has served me well throughout my life. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, and I’m honest about that. There’s real strength in admitting when you don’t know something, because that’s where growth begins.

Will I fail? Without a doubt. But failure isn’t something to fear – it’s something to learn from. Every experience, good or bad, teaches you something. Every setback builds resilience. And every step forward, no matter how small, is still progress.

The real danger isn’t failure. The real danger is never starting at all.

Too often, we listen to the voices around us – family, friends, society – telling us to play it safe and stay comfortable. And while those voices may come from a good place, they’re not the ones who have to live your life.

So the question becomes: whose voice are you going to listen to?

Will it be the noise that keeps you where you are, or the quieter voice within you – the one that gently nudges you toward something more?

That inner voice is always there. It guides you toward a life that energises you, a life that feels aligned, a life without regret. It doesn’t shout or demand attention, but it’s persistent. It waits for you to notice it.

At some point, you have to decide whether you’re going to keep waiting or finally begin.

Not when everything is perfect. Not when you feel completely ready. Just now.

Take the first step. Learn as you go. Trust that you’ll figure things out along the way.

Because life isn’t waiting.

And neither should you.
