For many years I thought it was just me, this only happens to me, and that bottling everything up was the way to deal with it.
What I have learned over the last few years is that we all suffer from time to time but the thing is we can help ourselves by taking the first step in talking to someone or asking for help. This is not a weakness but a great strength
That first step, the letting your voice be heard is liberating to say the least. The weight I had personally been carrying around for years got much lighter and the more I spoke openly to people the better I started to feel inside. We as men can tend to put the walls up around us and avoid dealing with the different emotions as they come up, thankfully women are better at dealing with this.
It was a Mindfulness teaching and positive Psychology course that really was the game changer for me. This 15 month course really helped with all the emotions (anger being one) I had buried for many years. A few weeks into the course I questioned is this mindfulness stuff really working? But sure enough when I kept with the process, when I kept showing up, when I kept integrating all the new positive habits I started to see the light at the end the tunnel and to this day mindfulness is a big part of my everyday personal development.
What worked for me?
•Mindfulness, meditation, journaling, gratitude
• Slowing down
• Surrounding myself with people who benefit me
• Getting out in nature
• No bad news, no energy vampires
• Good morning and night routines
• Rest and sleep. Just like our phones we need recharging too
• Laughter, it’s all getting way too serious
• Kindness, Giving and doing good deeds
I thought all this stuff was fluffy but trust me it does work. Be kind to yourself and reach out for help, we do not have to suffer in silence, we are all here to help each other. Have a wonderful day.
